The food and beverage sector will be critical to Australia's future prosperity.
However, changes occurring domestically and globally suggest the sector will face some considerable challenges and opportunities in the future for which it will need to be prepared.
Hill & Knowlton's food+life team set out to explore these possibilities based on how the food and beverage landscape might look 10 years from now - in 2021.
We were interested in exploring:
- Which consumer trends would change the way food was marketed
- What government policy changes would mean for manufacturers and retailers
- How the market might be comprised in a decade's time
Emerging technologies was another area we considered that has the potential to bring about considerable change.
The analysis occurred in two ways: firstly, through focus group sessions with our own specialist consultants, and secondly, by going to our wider network to gauge their views - businesses, consumer advocates and regulatory advisors all offered their thoughts and predictions on what the food and beverage landscape might look like in 2021.
The result is the Future Trends Paper - Business and Communications Challenges for the Food and Beverage Sector. This Future Trends Paper summarises our findings for the future of our food and beverage industry in three broad areas:
- Consumer
- Regulation
- Markets and competition
You may find some of the predictions understandable, while on others you may have different points of view. This is, of course, exactly the underlying purpose of this paper.
We hope it will get you thinking about the challenges and opportunities you'll face in your own position in this important industry sector.
